Qatar Takes Part in UNAOC Group of Friends High-Level Meeting

New York, September 26, 2026 : The State of Qatar took part in the high-level meeting of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Group of Friends, held on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Qatar was represented at the meeting by HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

Sheikha Hanouf affirmed Qatar's continued support for the Alliance and its role in promoting dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect, particularly amid the rising prevalence of hate speech, racism, Islamophobia, and other forms of intolerance around the world.

She also reiterated Qatar's support for UN General Assembly Resolution 76/254, which designated March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, stressing the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation to address hate speech and intolerance — including by harnessing the digital space to ensure technology is used to foster rapprochement rather than deepen divisions.

Sheikha Hanouf noted that dialogue and sustainable development are closely interconnected, underscoring the importance of investing in education, youth, and economic and social opportunities to build more peaceful and resilient societies. She said these priorities are reflected in Qatar's plan for the Alliance of Civilizations for 2023-2027, which focuses on education, youth, media, women, and migration.

She concluded by reaffirming Qatar's commitment to continuing its support for the UNAOC and translating dialogue into practical action.
