Cairo, Egypt | September 05, 2026 – The State of Qatar took part in the 166th session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives, held Saturday at the League's General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo, ahead of the ministerial-level session scheduled for Monday.

Qatar's Delegation Led by Ambassador to Egypt

Qatar's delegation to the meeting was led by HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

Palestinian Cause, Regional Security Top the Agenda

The session's agenda covered a wide range of political and socioeconomic issues, chief among them the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict, including developments and Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, support for the State of Palestine's budget, and efforts to bolster the resilience of the Palestinian people. Discussions also addressed the condemnation of Iran's unlawful attacks against Arab nations and reaffirmed Iran's obligations under international law.

Yemen, Gulf Security Among Other Key Topics

Other agenda items included support for the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen, condemnation of Iranian violations of Yemen's sovereignty and airspace integrity, and the security of navigation and energy supplies in the Arabian Gulf region. The session also touched on evolving developments in Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, and the Union of the Comoros.

Secretary-General's Reports, Summit Agenda Reviewed

Additionally, the session reviewed two reports from the League's Secretary-General covering the activities of the General Secretariat and the implementation of decisions from the Council's two previous ordinary sessions (164 and 165), along with the draft agenda for the Council's upcoming 35th ordinary session at the summit level.
