Qatar launches national survey on developmental disabilities diagnostics and interventions

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in partnership with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, has officially launched the assessment phase of the National Survey on Developmental Disabilities Diagnostics and Interventions. The initiative was announced during a high‑level event attended by representatives from major hospitals, healthcare institutions, and specialized centers across Qatar.

The project aims to deliver a comprehensive evaluation of diagnostic and intervention services for individuals with developmental disabilities. By mapping current practices, identifying strengths, and highlighting areas for improvement, the survey seeks to enhance service quality and expand accessibility nationwide.

Scheduled to run for one year, the survey will cover approximately 70 healthcare facilities, including hospitals, health centers, clinics, and specialized treatment centers. Officials emphasized that the findings will provide a robust evidence base to guide policy decisions and shape future strategies.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Salma Khalaf Al Kaabi, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health and national lead for the autism action plan, underscored the importance of the initiative. She noted that the survey reflects Qatar’s commitment to aligning developmental disability services with international best practices, while also strengthening collaboration among stakeholders. Dr. Al Kaabi urged healthcare providers to actively participate to ensure the collection of accurate and representative data.

The outcomes of the survey will support evidence‑informed decision‑making, helping to identify gaps and challenges within existing services. This will enable the development of effective national strategies that improve diagnostics, interventions, and overall quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities, while promoting their inclusion in society.

The survey encompasses a wide spectrum of conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Developmental Disorders, Speech and Language Disorders, Learning Disorders, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), Attention‑Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Stereotypic Movement Disorder.
