Qatar expands 2026–2027 scholarship program with new pathways and inclusive tracks

Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced the launch of an expanded government scholarship program for the 2026–2027 academic year, introducing new study pathways and broader financial support to strengthen national expertise in priority sectors.

Officials said the initiative is anchored on four key objectives: economic growth, equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion, and talent development, in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.

New Pathways and Specializations Ā
The updated framework introduces a dedicated scholarship track for students with disabilities, enabling access to specialized international universities with inclusive learning environments. A bridging program has also been created to allow humanities students to transition into scientific disciplines. Priority fields include nuclear engineering, clinical psychology, artificial intelligence, and data science, reflecting Qatar’s strategic focus on future‑oriented sectors.

Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr. Hareb Al Jabri emphasized that the new features are designed to promote inclusivity while directing national talent toward specialized fields that support Qatar’s long‑term development goals.

Financial Support and Structure Ā
The program offers placements at leading international universities and institutions within Education City, with financial support tailored to the field of study. Officials noted that funding levels vary depending on discipline, program type, and academic level. Postgraduate scholarships for government employees will be subject to stricter eligibility criteria, including academic performance and employer approval, to ensure alignment with workforce planning.

Labour Market Alignment Ā
The Ministry of Labour highlighted that the program strengthens coordination between education and employment policies, particularly in the private sector, to better align graduates with labour market needs. Clearer employment pathways have been integrated into the framework to ensure graduates are equipped for strategic national fields.

Application Timeline

  • Registration for external scholarships, Education City institutions, and private universities will open from July 1 to August 15, 2026, covering opportunities abroad and within Qatar’s international branch campuses.
  • Applications for public universities, including Qatar University, will run from November 15 to December 30, 2026, with admissions based on academic merit and program‑specific requirements.
