Qatar condemns attack on UNIFIL patrol in Southern Lebanon
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar has strongly condemned the attack on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) patrol in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of a French soldier and injuries to others.
In its statement, the ministry described the assault as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. It reiterated Qatar’s categorical rejection of attacks targeting UN peacekeeping forces, stressing the importance of safeguarding their mission to maintain stability and security in Lebanon.
Qatar called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident, urging accountability for those responsible. The ministry extended its condolences to the family of the deceased soldier and to the government and people of France, while wishing a swift recovery for the injured.
Officials emphasized that such acts undermine international efforts to preserve peace in Lebanon and threaten the broader stability of the region.
