Qatar's Meteorology Department has forecast a noticeable rise in relative humidity levels heading into the weekend, with conditions expected to peak on Friday and Saturday, July 17-18, alongside continued chances of mist and fog forming in some areas, according to the department's latest bulletin issued Thursday.
In its daily weather report, the department said inshore conditions until 6:00 pm Thursday will be misty to foggy at places during the early hours, giving way to hot and humid daytime weather with intermittent cloud cover. The department warned of poor horizontal visibility at places during the early morning period, urging caution among motorists and residents. Offshore areas will similarly start misty before turning hazy, with clouds appearing at times through the day.
On wind conditions, the department said inshore winds will begin variable before shifting Northwesterly to Northeasterly at speeds of 5 to 15 knots, with gusts of up to 24 knots expected during daytime hours. Offshore, winds will also start variable, later shifting Northeasterly to Southeasterly at 2 to 12 knots, strengthening to as much as 18 knots in eastern maritime areas.
Sea conditions are expected to remain largely calm inshore, with wave heights of 1 to 2 feet. Offshore waters will see slightly higher waves, ranging from 1 to 3 feet and rising to as much as 5 feet in eastern areas, a factor mariners have been advised to consider.
Visibility levels are forecast to fluctuate significantly in the early hours, with inshore visibility ranging between 4 and 9 kilometres but dropping to 1 kilometre or less in places at first. Offshore visibility will follow a similar pattern, ranging from 4 to 9 kilometres before falling to as low as 3 kilometres or less initially.
With humidity levels expected to climb further over the weekend, residents have been advised to stay updated through official bulletins, particularly those planning outdoor or maritime activities during the misty morning periods.
