ABUJA: Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced that it now allocates 100% of its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, to the domestic market, citing a sharp rise in local demand rather than a decline in production.

The announcement was made by NLNG Managing Director Adeleye Falade during a courtesy visit by the company's delegation to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in Abuja.

Falade said the decision reflects NLNG's commitment to improving energy access and deepening the use of cleaner cooking fuel across Nigeria.

"Today, 100% of our LPG production is dedicated to the domestic market, not due to reduced output, but because demand has expanded significantly," he said.

He added that the company's ongoing Train 7 expansion project, expected to begin operations next year, will increase NLNG's production capacity by approximately 35%, enabling it to boost both domestic LPG supply and export volumes.

Falade stressed that stronger collaboration across Nigeria's upstream oil and gas sector is essential to sustaining gas supply and supporting the country's growing domestic energy needs.

Responding to the visit, NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyewa Eyesan reaffirmed the commission's commitment to creating a business-friendly regulatory environment and advancing the Federal Government's "Decade of Gas" initiative.

She said the commission has accelerated regulatory reforms in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), while introducing monthly stakeholder engagements to address industry challenges, improve investor confidence and encourage new investments.

Eyesan described the "Decade of Gas" programme as a practical roadmap for expanding domestic gas utilisation while strengthening Nigeria's export capacity, urging industry operators to complement government reforms through stronger compliance, performance and investment discipline.
