Vaccination Requirements

The Ministry of Public Health has emphasized the critical importance of vaccination before traveling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. They have issued guidelines outlining the mandatory and recommended vaccines for pilgrims.

The conjugate quadrivalent (ACWY) vaccine against meningococcal meningitis is compulsory for all individuals aged 1 year and older. For those aged 6 to 12 months, the vaccine can be administered in two doses, two months apart.

In addition to this mandatory vaccine, the Ministry recommends several other vaccines. The seasonal influenza vaccine is advised for everyone aged 6 months and older. The pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for senior citizens over 65 and other high-risk individuals, including those with chronic conditions such as diabetes, sickle cell anemia, renal failure, chronic respiratory conditions, splenectomy, cardiovascular disease, heavy smoking habits, or compromised immune systems.

Furthermore, the Covid-19 vaccine is recommended for all individuals aged 12 years and above.

The Ministry underscores the importance of being healthy and fully prepared for the pilgrimage to manage the physical stress and health risks associated with large gatherings.
