QMC CEO H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al Al Thani

The State of Qatar chaired the meeting of the Undersecretaries of Information Ministries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This meeting serves as a preparatory session for the 27th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Information, scheduled for Thursday in Doha.

The session was presided over by the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al Thani, who is the current president, and attended by the Undersecretaries of GCC Information Ministries and H E Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC.

In his opening address, H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al Thani welcomed the participants and expressed hope that the meeting would lead to recommendations and measures enhancing the international presence of Gulf media and addressing regional issues.

Following the meeting, the CEO of QMC highlighted that the Undersecretaries discussed several media-related topics, including developing a media plan to protect morals and social values, instilling Gulf values and identity, setting regulatory controls for electronic commercial advertising on social media in GCC countries, and a digital safety initiative for children.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the production of joint radio dramas, radio programs targeting youth interests in technology, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy, television programs, and a cartoon series titled 'The Station.' There were also plans for a joint Gulf television evening to coincide with the 45th session of the GCC leaders.

H E Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al Thani emphasized that the media plays a crucial role in portraying the true image of the Gulf states, reflecting their values, morals, and developmental achievements.

H E Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi expressed gratitude to Qatar for supporting joint Gulf action, particularly in the media field, and congratulated the participants on the 43rd anniversary of the GCC's founding on May 25. He noted that the meeting aimed to enhance cooperation among GCC countries in the media sector and discussed proposals to support joint media efforts.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), H E Mohammed bin Said Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information of Oman, mentioned that the meeting reviewed decisions from 2023 and their implementation by the GCC General Secretariat and Gulf Radio and Television. Key topics included the role of artificial intelligence in media, with decisions aimed at advancing media work in the GCC.
