June started quietly. Then the release calendar hit and suddenly there are five films worth talking about — one of which is being called Spielberg's best since Minority Report.
If you've been waiting for a reason to get back to VOX Doha Festival City or Novo Mall of Qatar, this is the month. Summer school holidays are starting, the AC is the only reason anyone leaves home, and the movie lineup is genuinely good this time.
Here's what's coming, what it's about, and whether it's worth planning your weekend around.
Masters of the Universe — Already Showing
He-Man is back. And no, this isn't the cheesy 1987 Dolph Lundgren version your uncle keeps quoting at family dinners.
Director Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) brings Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia after 15 years — only to find his home wrecked under Skeletor's rule. The cast alone makes this worth watching: Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Jared Leto going full villain mode as Skeletor.
Is it a perfect film? No. But as a big-screen action-fantasy with proper production design and a cast that's clearly having fun, it does what it promises. Good pick for a Friday night with teenagers or if you grew up watching the original cartoon.
Showing now at Novo, VOX, and Flik cinemas across Doha.
Disclosure Day (June 11) — The One Everyone's Talking About
This is the film of the month. Possibly the film of the summer.
Steven Spielberg directing a sci-fi alien thriller — his first since War of the Worlds in 2005 — should already have your attention. Add Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell to the cast, and it becomes something harder to ignore.
The setup: Josh O'Connor plays Daniel Kelner, a cybersecurity expert who stumbles onto a global conspiracy hiding proof of extraterrestrial life. Governments are covering it up. He's racing to expose it. The film's tagline — "The truth belongs to seven billion people" — tells you the tone.
Early word from film festivals is that Spielberg hasn't lost his touch. Disclosure Day is already sitting at number one on Rotten Tomatoes' most-anticipated list for June 2026, and the IMAX version is reportedly worth the extra cost for the third act alone.
If you're going to pick one film this month, this is it.
Releases June 11 at VOX IMAX Doha Festival City and Novo locations.
Toy Story 5 (June 18) — For the Whole Family, Not Just the Kids
The fifth Toy Story picks up with the gang facing a new kind of threat — not a kid who grew up, not a villain collecting antiques, but the rise of smart devices and screen-addicted children who don't play with physical toys anymore. Which is, if you think about it, a genuinely interesting place to take these characters.
Pixar usually earns its emotional gut-punches. Toy Story 4 divided fans — some loved it, some thought it went one film too far. This one is clearly trying to win back both camps.
With Tom Hanks returning as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz, the nostalgia factor is high. And for anyone who grew up with the original trilogy, watching these toys grapple with a world that literally no longer needs them hits differently once you're an adult.
Book early for this one. The first weekend of family films during Qatar school holidays sells out fast — both at Novo Mall of Qatar and Flik Lagoona.
Releases June 18.
Supergirl (June 25) — DC Is Trying Again
The DC Universe has had a complicated few years. But Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has been one of the most anticipated DC projects since James Gunn took over, and early reactions from test screenings have been more positive than anyone expected.
Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El — a very different Supergirl than the TV version fans know. The story follows her on an interstellar journey alongside an unlikely companion, chasing justice after something strikes too close to home. Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley also star.
The tone is reportedly darker than typical superhero fare — closer to a road-trip revenge story set in space than a traditional cape film. If that sounds like a weird combination, it is. But weird combinations are exactly what DC needed after years of playing it safe.
Worth watching if you've been keeping up with the new DCU. If you haven't, the film apparently works as a standalone too.
Releases June 25.
Scary Movie 6 — June (Date TBC in Qatar)
Anna Faris is back. The Wayans brothers are back. And the franchise is clearly targeting audiences who've been watching horror films for the last decade and are ready to see them get mocked properly.
No confirmed Qatar release date yet, but given how well the earlier Scary Movie films performed in GCC markets, expect it to arrive at Doha cinemas sometime in the second or third week of June. Keep an eye on the Novo and VOX app for showtimes — these usually go live 3-4 days before opening.
A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Book
VOX vs Novo in June: Both have the major releases, but VOX Doha Festival City has the IMAX screen — important if you're watching Disclosure Day. Novo Mall of Qatar tends to have more screens and more showtime options for family films like Toy Story.
School holidays: Qatar schools wrap up in mid-June. Weekend afternoons at family-friendly screens get crowded fast. Book at least 3-4 days in advance if you're going for Toy Story 5 on a Friday or Saturday.
Ticket prices: Standard seats run QAR 45-55. IMAX is closer to QAR 80-90. For Disclosure Day specifically, IMAX is worth the extra spend if early reviews hold.
Which Film Are You Watching First?
That's the actual question.
Disclosure Day looks like the critical standout. Toy Story 5 is the safe family pick. Supergirl has the most to prove. And Masters of the Universe is already in cinemas if you want to go this weekend.
June in Qatar doesn't usually feel like peak movie season — that tends to be December. But this year the summer slate is holding its own.
