From Tamil Nadu to the Caribbean


Tens of thousands of South Indian workers, many from what is now Tamil Nadu, were shipped to Guadeloupe between the 1850s and early 1900s. They kept their names, their food, parts of their language, and eventually their descendants became French citizens.


Moutoussamy's father is part of that Indo-Guadeloupean community, which is why a player representing DR Congo carries a name straight out of Madurai or Thanjavur.

Early Career and the Lyon Academy


Moutoussamy started youth football locally with Meudon AS in 2003 before moving through Boulogne-Billancourt and Montrouge FC 92. He joined the Lyon academy in 2011 and transferred to Nantes in 2016, making his Ligue 1 debut in August 2017.
