The golden rule: always soak them
Never eat chia seeds dry, especially first thing. They absorb up to around 10 times their weight in liquid and swell into a gel; eaten dry with too little water, they can be uncomfortable to swallow. Soaking for at least 15–20 minutes or overnight makes them easier to digest and helps your body absorb their nutrients.
5 easy morning ways to eat them
1. Chia water (the simplest start)
How: stir one tablespoon of chia seeds into a glass of water and let it sit for 15–20 minutes until gel-like. Add a squeeze of lemon or a little honey if you like.
Why: an easy, hydrating way to start the day and get the seeds in before breakfast.
2. Overnight chia pudding
How: mix two to three tablespoons of chia seeds with a cup of milk (dairy or plant-based), refrigerate overnight, and top with fruit and nuts in the morning.
Why: the milk and nuts add extra protein and healthy fats, making it a more complete, hair-friendly breakfast.
