Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways Launch “Fast Pass” Biometric Travel Service

 Hamad International Airport (HIA), in partnership with Qatar Airways and technology provider SITA, has unveiled the “Fast Pass” service - a major step toward paperless travel designed to streamline passenger departures and enhance security.

The new system uses facial recognition technology to allow travelers to move through key checkpoints with minimal reliance on paper documents. Once registered via self‑service kiosks or the Qatar Airways mobile app, passengers can complete check‑in, baggage drop, security screening, and boarding using biometric identification. The activation process takes only seconds, eliminating repeated document checks and reducing waiting times, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Airport officials described the initiative as one of the largest biometric identity verification deployments in the Middle East and worldwide, connecting more than 700 touchpoints into a single seamless journey. The system is designed to uphold the highest standards of data protection and passenger security at every stage.

Participation remains optional, with traditional passport and boarding pass procedures still available for those who prefer them. However, demand for biometric travel is rising globally. According to the International Air Transport Association, most passengers now favor biometric identity verification over paper documents.

The launch of “Fast Pass” underscores HIA’s commitment to innovation and efficiency, aligning with global trends toward digital travel solutions. Officials confirmed that the service will continue to expand, with additional touchpoints planned and potential rollout to other airlines operating at the airport.
