Google Expands AI-Powered Voice Controls Across Gmail, Docs and Keep

Washington, September 6, 2026 : Google has begun rolling out new AI-powered Live features for Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Keep following a beta testing period, expanding voice-based interactions through its Gemini Live assistant.

The new features are designed to allow users to interact with their emails, documents, and notes through natural voice commands, making it easier to search for information, organize content, and manage tasks.

In Gmail, the new Gmail Live feature enables users to search through their emails and ask questions using natural language. Gemini can provide responses based on information contained in the user's emails, while users can interrupt an ongoing conversation to change the subject or ask a different question.

The feature also displays a transcript of the conversation along with links to the relevant source emails, allowing users to verify the information provided by the AI assistant.

For Google Docs, Docs Live allows users to use voice commands to develop, organize, and structure their ideas while working on documents. The feature is designed to help users shape their content through a more conversational interaction with Gemini.

Meanwhile, Google Keep introduces Keep Live, which uses AI to transform spoken input into organized notes and lists. The feature is capable of interpreting the context and intent of voice commands to help users structure information more efficiently.

Gmail Live is available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans on Android and iOS. Docs Live is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Keep Live is currently available only on Android for subscribers to the Pro and Ultra plans.
