DICID Participates in 'Family Challenges Amidst Major Transformations' Conference

Cairo, Egypt - September 02, 2026 – The Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) is taking part in a two-day conference titled "Family Challenges Amidst Major Transformations: A Fatwa-Based Approach to Protecting the Family, Envisioning its Future, and Preserving Identity," held in Cairo and organized by the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.

Qatar Represented by DICID Board Chairman

The Center is represented at the conference by HE Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi, Chairman of the Board at DICID. His participation reflects Qatar's ongoing and active engagement in international forums addressing issues facing the Islamic world, particularly the challenges confronting the Muslim family amid the effects of globalization and rapid technological change. It also reflects DICID's broader commitment to engaging with issues relevant to the Islamic world and cooperating with official institutions across Islamic countries.

Al Naimi Highlights Growing Threats to Family Structure

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al Naimi pointed to the mounting challenges facing the family unit in today's rapidly changing world, describing them as a serious threat to its structure, cohesion, and underlying values. He said such challenges call on international civil institutions, along with cultural, academic, and religious bodies — particularly Islamic fatwa institutions worldwide — to take an active and responsible role in finding ways to safeguard family cohesion, especially within Muslim communities, grounded in adherence to Sharia and Islamic values.

Conference Builds on Themes From Doha Interfaith Dialogue

Dr. Al Naimi described the Cairo conference as a natural extension of joint Arab and Islamic efforts to promote the principles of family preservation, noting that the 15th Doha Conference on Interfaith Dialogue had previously tackled a related theme, focused on family structure amid global change under the title "Integration of Families, Faith, Values, and Education."

He added that as most modern societies have become increasingly pluralistic in terms of culture and religion, interfaith dialogue has become an important tool for reinforcing family values and protecting the family system — something he described as a fundamental structure inherent to human society since ancient times.

Focus on Digital Transformation and Family Stability

The conference aims to examine contemporary challenges facing the family in the context of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, working toward a unified fatwa-based framework to protect the family, anticipate future changes, and preserve identity. Discussions also center on strengthening a sense of belonging, coexistence, and solidarity to help shape individuals capable of positive engagement with society while maintaining family stability.

Additional topics include the growing digital divide and its effect on human relationships, as well as broader social, cultural, economic, and technological shifts impacting family stability, marital relationships, and child-rearing.
