Dhaka, November 02, 2026 : The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), through its representation mission in Bangladesh, has launched a humanitarian project in partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to improve shelter, protection and living conditions for vulnerable families in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar district.
With a budget of $517,877, the initiative includes building medium-term shelters and distributing non-food items to support the daily needs of 704 refugee families, comprising 4,224 people.
The project addresses the difficult conditions facing families in the camps, including overcrowding, inadequate shelter and frequent exposure to monsoon rains, strong winds and fires. These challenges pose risks to residents’ safety, privacy and stability.
Beneficiaries are being selected according to specific eligibility and needs-based criteria, with priority given to female-headed households, people with disabilities, older persons and families with children under six. QRCS, its implementing partner and the relevant authorities have also established field assessment and verification procedures to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need.
Eng. Mohamed Thabet Safi, head of QRCS’s mission in Bangladesh, said the initiative provides practical support to families facing difficult shelter conditions in Cox’s Bazar. He noted that combining safer accommodation with essential household supplies would help preserve families’ dignity and support their daily routines.
He added that the project places emphasis on quality implementation and careful beneficiary selection to maximise its humanitarian impact.
