Washington, November 02, 2026 : Authorities in the southwestern United States have issued mandatory evacuation orders in several areas following heavy rainfall that triggered flash flooding.
In Sedona, Arizona, officials urged residents living near Oak Creek to evacuate immediately as water levels rose rapidly. Some people were reportedly trapped inside their homes.
Meanwhile, authorities in Pagosa Springs, southwestern Colorado, warned of potentially catastrophic flooding, with the San Juan River forecast to reach a level exceeding 19 feet.
The heavy rainfall began on Saturday evening, with forecasts indicating that flash flooding could continue through Monday, particularly in areas where the ground is already saturated. The National Weather Service estimated that rainfall could reach up to four inches (10 centimetres) as successive storm systems move in from the Pacific Ocean.
The weather agency has issued flood warnings covering most of Arizona, parts of southern Utah, southwestern Colorado, western New Mexico and a section of southern Nevada.
The warnings include areas of the Four Corners region, where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet.
