Washington, October 19, 2026: A coastal storm moving off the eastern coast of the United States is expected to bring strong winds, flooding and beach erosion over the coming days, with the most severe impacts forecast between North Carolina and New Jersey.
According to the US Weather Prediction Center, the nor’easter has developed off the coast of North Carolina and is expected to remain offshore for much of the week. The system could generate increasingly powerful waves and raise coastal water levels, particularly during high tides.
Forecasters have identified North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey as among the areas most vulnerable to the storm’s effects.
Coastal flood warnings have been issued for parts of Maryland, Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Water levels in low-lying areas could rise up to 60 centimetres above ground level, while wind gusts are expected to exceed 72 kilometres per hour.
