Air India Flight From Phuket to Delhi Drops 300 Feet Mid-Air After Stall Warning

An Air India flight travelling from Phuket, Thailand, to Delhi experienced a sudden altitude loss of around 300 feet after the aircraft received a stall warning shortly after take-off, according to aviation officials.

The incident involved an Airbus A320 operating as Flight AI379, which was carrying passengers from Phuket International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Shortly after departure, the aircraft’s warning systems alerted the pilots to a potential aerodynamic stall, prompting immediate corrective action.

In response to the warning, the flight crew followed standard operating procedures to regain a safe flying configuration. During the recovery manoeuvre, the aircraft briefly descended approximately 300 feet before stabilising and continuing its climb.

A stall warning indicates that an aircraft is approaching a condition where its wings may no longer generate sufficient lift due to a reduction in airspeed or an excessive angle of attack. Modern commercial aircraft are equipped with automated warning systems that alert pilots well before an actual stall occurs, allowing crews to take corrective measures promptly.

Air India confirmed that the pilots handled the situation in accordance with established safety procedures and that the aircraft remained under full control throughout the event. The airline said the flight continued safely to Delhi, where it landed without further incident.

No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, and the aircraft did not sustain any damage.

The incident has been reported to the relevant aviation authorities, and an investigation has been initiated to determine what triggered the stall warning. As part of the standard process, investigators will review flight data recorder information, cockpit voice recordings, weather conditions, and the aircraft’s technical systems.

Aviation experts note that stall warnings, while uncommon, are built into aircraft safety systems to provide pilots with early alerts, enabling them to take corrective action long before the aircraft reaches an unsafe condition.

Air India reiterated that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its highest priority and said it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
