US Navy Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship in Gulf of Oman

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, 19 April 2026, that American naval forces intercepted and disabled an Iranian‑flagged cargo vessel attempting to breach the US blockade in the Gulf of Oman.

According to Trump’s statement on his Truth Social Post, the ship, identified as Touska and measuring nearly 900 feet in length, was stopped after refusing repeated warnings from the USS Spruance, a guided‑missile destroyer enforcing the blockade. The vessel was disabled when US forces struck its engine room, preventing further movement.

Trump confirmed that US Marines have taken custody of the ship, which is already under US Treasury sanctions for alleged illegal activity. He said the vessel is now being inspected to determine its cargo.

The incident marks one of the most high‑profile confrontations since the blockade of Iranian ports was announced, underscoring rising tensions in the Gulf region.
