HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres expressed his thanks and gratitude for the efforts of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in helping to secure the release of two American citizens from the Gaza Strip.
In a statement by Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric on Saturday, Guterres called for unhindered and sustained humanitarian access in Gaza; full respect for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians; as well as for a concerted effort by the international community to avoid a wider regional spill-over of the conflict.
