UAE hired intelligence hackers to spy on Qatar: Report

According to a New York Times reporter, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had hired hackers, including former members of the US National Security Agency, to spy on Qatar.

The excerpts from a book written by the reporter indicate that this electronic spy network was hired to prove Qatar’s involvement in terrorism financing and Qatar’s funding to the Muslim Brotherhood Group.

The reporter further states that the Abu Dhabi government offered high salaries to the hackers to spy on Qatar.

One of the former members of the network was quoted saying to the New York Times that they were misled by double financial offers under the cover of working for an allied government of Washington.

The UAE hasn’t commented on these claims stated in the report.

On 5 January, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt signed a reconciliation deal with Qatar, ending a three-year-long rift. The four countries had imposed an air, sea and land blockade on Qatar, severing all trade and diplomatic ties with the nation. The Saudi-led coalition had accused Qatar of supporting and financing terrorist groups. All allegations were denied by Qatar.
