Transport Ministry carries out assessment plans to enhance safety measures on road

The Qatar Roads Assessment Programme (Q-RAP) of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) carries out assessment plans to enhance safety features on roads so that traffic accidents in the region will be reduced.

The ministry through twitter said that the main objectives of this initiative, which is almost coming to an end, consist of preparing appropriate engineering solutions to make sure the safety concerns for all road users are prioritised and helps in reducing traffic accidents.

Other main objectives also include organising detailed surveys to ensure the safety of road users, knowing the star rating of road safety in accordance with best world practices and enhancing integrated systems and apps to make sure access to accurate high-quality data. The initiative by MoTC works currently under way are 90% completed the star rating on safety of roads; preparing and enhancing apps to identify the most dangerous palces and introducing efficient plans to make them better and raise safety levels; and co-ordinating with bodies pertained in the country to take the mandatory steps to improve the safety level on road networks.

The survey is carried as part of the MoTC’s efforts to support the Second National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. The primary focus is on building a smart database for assessing road assets' performance while providing a safe and high-quality road network and deploying best standards and specifications for road assets delivery. Other than that, the survey has been processed to offer sustainable road maintenance solutions in the region and encourage the private sector’s involvement in transportation and mobility projects while preserving Qatar’s capital investments and gains.

Last year in August, MoTC signed an MoU with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) for planning, studying, designing, maintaining and managing the road projects as part of upgrading the level of collaboration, joint efforts and constructive co-operation with the aim of offering a safe, integrated transportation system in compliance to the best universal practices and standards.
