Philippine Representative to Taiwan Gilberto Lauengco and Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang mark Taiwan's donation of oxygen concentrators to the Philippines in this CNA file photo from July.

Taiwan’s representative office in Manila released a press release on Tuesday announcing the donation of 200 oxygen concentrators to the Philippines. The news came as the WHO’s representative in the Philippines confirmed community transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country.

Oxygen concentrators remove nitrogen from ambient air, leaving an oxygen-enriched gas that can be used to treat respiratory conditions. A ceremony formally marking the donation took place in July, with the Philippine representative to Taiwan in attendance.

Taiwan’s representative office in Manila says that Taiwan and the Philippines will continue strengthening ties in the areas of trade, investment, agriculture, health, education, technology, and tourism.
