Qatar's Shura Council held its weekly session at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall. Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim chaired the meeting yesterday. Members opened the session by mourning recent tragic losses across Qatar. The Council also reviewed two new draft laws during the meeting.
Council mourns recent tragedies in Qatar
Members extended condolences to families affected by the Ras Laffan factory explosion. That incident killed 13 people and injured several others last week. The Council praised the rapid response from Qatar's security services. Lawmakers also prayed for patience and healing among grieving families. The Council further mourned a citizen martyred while sailing in Qatari waters. Officials said shrapnel from regional military operations caused that tragedy. Members wished a swift recovery to another person injured in the incident.
Council commends Amir's diplomatic leadership
The Shura Council welcomed new talks between the United States and Iran. Members praised Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for supporting dialogue. They said this reflects Qatar's steady commitment to constructive mediation. The Council linked these efforts to broader regional stability and lasting peace. This recognition highlighted Qatar's growing role in international diplomacy.
New laws move forward for government review
Secretary General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud read the session's full agenda. Members approved minutes from the Council's previous weekly meeting. Lawmakers passed a draft law overseeing fuel station regulations nationwide. They also approved amendments to the Civil and Commercial Procedures Law. Both measures now move forward to Qatar's government for further action. Committee members had reviewed detailed reports before this approval.
Speaker briefs Council on recent international conferences
Speaker Al Ghanim updated members on two major diplomatic gatherings. He led Qatar's delegation to the OIC Parliamentary Union conference in Baku. That session ran from June 24 through June 25 this year. He also attended the Arab Parliament conference held in Cairo. That gathering took place on June 27, drawing regional parliamentary leaders. Al Ghanim outlined key discussion topics from both important conferences.
