Arab and Islamic countries condemn Israel’s death penalty law
The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have strongly denounced the new Israeli law permitting the death penalty in the occupied West Bank, describing its application against Palestinians as a grave escalation.
In a joint statement, the ministers warned that such measures entrench a system of apartheid and promote exclusionary rhetoric that denies the Palestinian people their inalienable rights and existence in the occupied territories. They stressed that the discriminatory nature of the legislation, particularly targeting Palestinian prisoners, would heighten tensions and undermine regional stability.
The ministers also voiced deep concern over the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, citing credible reports of torture, cruel and degrading treatment, starvation, and deprivation of basic rights. They emphasized that these violations reflect a broader pattern of repression against the Palestinian people.
Reiterating their rejection of Israeli policies rooted in racial discrimination and aggression, the ministers called for restraint from measures that exacerbate tensions. They underscored the importance of accountability and urged intensified international efforts to safeguard stability and prevent further deterioration in the region.
