Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar has developed its organ transplant program over time and is now recognized as one of the most comprehensive transplant centers in the region, according to a senior official.

Dr. Yousuf Al Maslamani, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Affairs and Director of Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation, stated that the program has been enhanced by the presence of international standard facilities, experts, and a unified organ donor registry.

In a video message, Dr. Al Maslamani emphasized that HMC offers kidney, liver, and lung transplant surgeries, making it a leading center for organ transplantation in the region.

He also highlighted the expansion and strengthening of the program since its inception in 1986, ensuring exceptional care for patients.

Dr. Al Maslamani further mentioned that HMC has a multidisciplinary team, including renowned international experts, who provide the highest level of care to patients.

Additionally, Qatar's Organ Donor Registry has gained widespread public support, with one in five adults registered. The organ donation and transplant programs in Qatar have received international recognition for their fairness and equity, which is a source of pride for the country.

An organ transplant is a life-saving procedure that can greatly improve the quality of life for individuals with chronic organ failure. A deceased donor has the potential to save up to eight lives, and it is also possible to donate a kidney or part of the liver. Recently, Qatar's Organ Transplant and Organ Donation Programs honored numerous living kidney, liver, and bone marrow donors.

Sahar Burhan, one of HMC's first organ donation and transplantation coordinators, has played a crucial role in assisting hundreds of organ recipients throughout the years.

The program has made significant progress in providing numerous individuals with the opportunity to receive different organs, thanks to the donations facilitated by HMC.

In her message, Burhan urged people to sign up with the Organ Donation Registry and consider volunteering to donate a portion of their liver or a kidney when a family member requires it.

Based on HMC data, the number of registered donors in the Organ Donor Registry has exceeded 530,000, which accounts for approximately 25 percent of Qatar's adult population.
