Doha: Asian champions Qatar continued their fine run as they defeated a local side in a friendly match yesterday on the sidelines of their ongoing training camp in Croatia.

Mohamed Muntari, Abdullah Al Ahrak and Akram Afif - returning from injury - were on target as Al Annabi scored two goals in the second half to win the match. The game was tied at 1-1 in first half.

Qatar will meet El Salvador in their second friendly match on July 4 before wrapping up the training camp on July 6. The Felix Sanchez-coached side is gearing up to make their debut in this month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Qatar last month topped Group E of the Joint Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 after an unbeaten run.

Qatar will play their first Gold Cup match against Panama on July 13. The Asian champions will play their other Group D matches against Grenada on July 17 and Honduras on July 20.
