Qatar Welcomes US Iran Ceasefire Agreement And Urges Commitment to Dialogue

Qatar welcomes US–Iran ceasefire, calls for full commitment

The State of Qatar has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as an important first step toward de‑escalation and stressing the urgent need to build on this momentum to prevent further regional tension.

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Particular recognition was given to the role of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Marshal Asim Munir, alongside all parties whose diplomatic engagement contributed to reaching the agreement.

The Ministry emphasized the necessity of full adherence to the ceasefire terms, noting that such commitment would consolidate the truce and create conditions conducive to dialogue. It further underscored the importance of Iran immediately halting hostile acts that undermine regional stability and respecting the sovereignty of states to ensure violations are not repeated.

Qatar also highlighted the critical need to safeguard maritime routes and guarantee freedom of navigation and international trade in line with international law. Ensuring the security of these corridors, the statement noted, is essential for maintaining regional stability and protecting global supply chains.

Reiterating its unwavering support for diplomatic initiatives, Qatar stressed that serious dialogue, adherence to international law, and principles of good neighborliness remain the fundamental pillars for resolving crises and avoiding grave repercussions for the region and the wider world.
