Qatar’s young athletes delivered a strong start at the Arab U20 Athletics Championships, claiming one gold and one silver medal on the opening day of competition. The tournament, which runs until April 30, features 320 athletes from 15 Arab nations across track and field disciplines.

Mubarak Saeed captured the gold medal in the 3,000 meters, clocking a season‑best time of 8:15.43, while Saleh Mahmoud earned the silver medal in shot put. Meanwhile, Yousef Abdulaziz advanced to the final of the 400 meters, raising hopes of further podium finishes when he competes on Monday.

Qatar is represented by a strong contingent of athletes across multiple events, including the 400m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay, pole vault, discus throw, and hammer throw.

The Qatar Athletics Federation emphasized that participation in Tunis reinforces the country’s standing at the Arab level while also serving as preparation for meeting qualification standards ahead of the World Athletics Championships in the United States later this summer.
