Qatar Resumes Normal Maritime Navigation Within 7-Nautical-Mile Zone

Doha - Qatar's Ministry of Transport (MOT) has announced that normal maritime navigation has resumed across a roughly 7-nautical-mile stretch of sea along the country's eastern coast, ending a period of restricted vessel movement in the area.

According to a circular issued by the Ministry on Monday, July 20, 2026, all types of maritime vessels and ships can now sail freely within the designated zone, which stretches from Lusail City in the north down to Hamad Port in the east, and extends from the Umm Heesh area to Doha Salwa in the west. The area includes ports, anchorages, and marine facilities located within Lusail City.

The Ministry confirmed that the decision took effect immediately upon announcement, allowing maritime traffic in the zone to return to standard operations without further delay.

Vessels that fall under international maritime conventions, and which already operate in line with existing regulations and procedures, will continue to be exempt from any additional restrictions tied to this announcement, the Ministry noted.

Alongside confirming the resumption of activity, the MOT called on all vessel operators and crews to remain compliant with the maritime regulations and instructions currently in force. The Ministry further urged sailors to ensure that all necessary safety and security equipment is properly on board before departure and remains available throughout each voyage, in order to safeguard the wellbeing of passengers, crew, and vessels alike.
