Qatar Olympic Committee Announces Sport Events Calendar for 2023

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has released its sporting event schedule for 2023, featuring 81 competitions throughout the year, including 14 major international sporting events.

The packed calendar will bring athletes and teams from around the world to Qatar for competitions across volleyball, tennis, squash, badminton, gymnastics, golf, athletics, basketball, padel, judo and several other sports.

Beach Volleyball Events to Headline Qatar's Sports Calendar

The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) will host several major beach volleyball competitions in 2023.

The schedule includes the King of the Court Finals (Beach Volleyball), followed by the Beach Pro Tour Finals. The QVA will also host the 2023 Beach Volleyball World Pro Tour – Elite 16 in February.

Tennis and Squash Competitions in February

The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will continue hosting major professional tennis competitions, including the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and Qatar TotalEnergies Open, both scheduled for February 2023.

Major International Events Scheduled for March

March will feature four significant international sporting events.

The Qatar Gymnastics Federation will host the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup 2023, while the Qatar Golf Association will organise the 37th Qatar Open Amateur Championship.

The Qatar Shooting & Archery Association will host the 2023 ISSF World Shotgun Championship, while the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will organise the Ooredoo Qatar Major Padel Championship.

Doha to Host Major Sporting Events in May

Doha will once again welcome several major international competitions in May.

The IJF World Judo Championship will take place at the Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena, bringing leading judokas to Qatar.

The Qatar Basketball Federation will organise the FIBA 3x3 World Tour – Doha, while the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Association will host the Qatar QTerminals Classic Squash Tournament at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

17 Asian Sporting Events on the Calendar

Qatar will also host 17 Asian sporting events during 2023.

These include the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Pre-Qualifiers, Asia Professional Golf Tour, West Asia Men's Athletics Championship, FIBA U16 Asian Championship, Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy and West Asia Men's Squash Championship.

GCC Championships to Be Held in Doha

Several Gulf-level competitions are also included in the QOC calendar.

The programme features the ninth GCC Sports Tournament for Universities and Higher Education Institutions, GCC Squash Championship for singles and teams, GCC 3x3 U16 Basketball Championship, GCC 3x3 Basketball Championship, GCC Padel Championship and GCC Billiard and Snooker Championship.

Local and Community Sporting Events

Alongside international and regional competitions, Qatar's 2023 sporting calendar includes numerous local and community events.

These include the Qatar Basketball Cup Final, National Sport Day, QOC Challenge Championship (CrossFit), QOC Beach Games, Qatar Volleyball Cup Final and the Olympic Schools Program Closing Ceremony.

The schedule will also feature the HH the Amir Volleyball Cup Final, HH the Amir Handball Cup Final, HH the Amir Basketball Cup Final, World Olympic Day, Sport Excellency Awards and The Flag Relay, among other activities.
