Qatar Defense Ministry Confirms Drone Strike on Cargo Vessel Near Mesaieed Port
The Ministry of Defense of the State of Qatar announced that a commercial cargo vessel traveling within Qatar’s territorial waters northeast of Mesaieed Port was targeted by a drone strike on Sunday morning.
The vessel, arriving from Abu Dhabi, sustained a limited fire onboard as a result of the attack. Authorities confirmed that the blaze was quickly contained, with no injuries reported.
Following the incident, the ship resumed its journey toward Mesaieed Port. The ministry stated that all necessary measures were taken and coordination was carried out with the relevant authorities to ensure maritime safety and security.
Officials emphasized that the incident highlights ongoing risks to commercial shipping in the Gulf, while reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to safeguarding vessels operating in its waters.
