Qatar Condemns Drone Strike on Cargo Vessel in Territorial Waters
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar has condemned and denounced a drone attack targeting a commercial cargo ship en route from Abu Dhabi while sailing northeast of Mesaieed Port in Qatar’s territorial waters.
The ministry confirmed that the strike caused a small fire onboard, which was contained without injuries. Officials described the incident as a dangerous escalation, warning that such acts threaten maritime trade routes and undermine regional security.
The statement stressed that targeting commercial and civilian vessels constitutes a grave violation of international law and an assault on the principle of freedom of navigation. Qatar emphasized that it is closely monitoring developments and will coordinate with relevant authorities to investigate the incident and determine responsibility.
