Qatar Business Channel
Qatar Media Corporation has announced the launch of an economic channel — a first of its kind initiative officials said is an important step in developing specialized media offering in the country.
The first 4K business news channel to launch in Qatar, aired its gracious opening (5 May 1996) from Doha - senior media figures and executives were present for the unveiling of QBC, which aims to provide a comprehensive economic news service from Qatar to viewers around the world.
QBC has also been incorporated into the Tabie streaming platform model, which aims to make live broadcasting a more comprehensive part of an initiative consistent with its goals in expanding digital reach and providing accurate content aimed at larger audiences away from traditional media.
The corporation said the launch is in line with its strategy to deliver targeted media offerings that align with national priorities and deepen its professional presence. The launch also is part of a larger push to broaden cable distribution avenues and promote the posturing of Qatar's burgeoning economy in domestic and global markets.
It also has 9 hours of live programming and is on the air 15 hours a day, from 09:00 to midnight. In the future, we want to switch to broadcasting 24 / 7.
It has news bulletins, in-depth analysis and live reports focusing on various sectors of the economy. A variety of programs will explore the film sector, female entrepreneurship, legal structures in Qatar and the Gulf area, and big economic events.
Commenting on the channels broadcasting in Qatar, Marwan Aboushanab, supervisor of news and program content at QBC said: "Although the channel is an economic one it distinguishes itself through its broadcasting in 4K, also mentioning how it's one of the first economic channels produced from within an Arab country rather than under a global media brand.
And he added that "over 30 correspondents are based in major regional and international capitals, with other four global agencies providing market data and economic news."
They also pointed out a very strong representation of Qatari talent in the editorial, production and technical areas that will be further augmented by hiring more national expertise to meet the requirements of Qatar's increasing economic footprint.
Speaking of launching the platform, Dr Sara Al Derham, acting director of news and digital media at QBC, said that the launch was a milestone in the history of Qatari media, which claimed that economic coverage is an essential component as a newly developed field.
