Qatar - A country of rich culture and tradition

Qatar is a modern country with advanced and dynamic modern society, still it boasts deep cultural roots that provides a base to the nations life and development. Qatar owns world class museums and demonstrates strong dedication towards preserving its historical and archaeological sites.

Qatar went through rapid development in recent years and developed a modern society being a key player in international roles in diverse areas like oil, gas, finance and business. Qatar’s future development plan lies as the key priority in the heart of Qatar that mostly deals with preserving and building on country’s history and traditions.

The administration, through the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Legacy, is dynamic in boosting all regions of national culture, building up new libraries, exhibition halls, theaters and art centers. It assist and organizes cultural celebrations and occasions, discussions, presentations and meetings uniting intellectuals, authors and artists.

A number of cultural events keep happening throughout the year. There is something for everyone, from the prominent and widely popular Doha Cultural Festival in March to occasions concentrated on additional specialized areas like, the Qatar Marine Festival, Katara Global Kite Festival, Doha International Book Fair, Qatar Global Food Festival, the Ajyal Youth Film Festival and the Traditional Dhow Festival.

Qatar has mostly looked for activities towards the sea including fishing, pearl diving, trading being staples for people for centuries. Traditional wooden dhows symbolizing noble seafaring tradition still ply Qatar’s waters today.

Falconry is a 5,000 years old sport pursued by Qatari’s in the winter season. Customary music including bagpipes and drums is still widely played, particularly at banquets, festivities and special occasions. Male artists with swords chant and sway with the music. Henna painting and Arabic calligraphy shows the strong creativity and visual traditions.

Katara Cultural Village is a dedicated cultural zone that brings together a taste of Qatar’s rich traditional legacy with a wide array of regional and international artistic.
