World Mental Health Day

Qatar University (QU) hosted a special event on Monday to celebrate World Mental Health Day attended by representatives from various medical and social institutions, along with mental health support centers in Qatar.

Countries worldwide celebrate World Mental Health Day on October 10 annually, with the aim of raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilizing efforts to counter them.
During her opening speech, Associate Vice President for Student Success and Development at QU Dr. Haya Al Attiya shed light on the significance of World Mental Health Day, emphasizing the importance of supporting individuals facing psychological challenges and the need to eliminate social stigma associated with mental health issues.

Dr. Al Attiya also stressed the importance of collaboration among different institutions to address mental health challenges comprehensively, adding, "Psychological challenges such as anxiety, depression, disorders, and others pose a significant obstacle to achieving comprehensive social development. They require awareness campaigns, lectures, conferences, continuous collaboration between relevant institutions, and conducting research and studies to provide effective solutions to these challenges and mitigate their impact on individuals in society."
She encouraged the attendees to tap into the expertise of the QU in the field of mental health and concluded with a call to work together for a community with sustainable mental health.

For his part, Director of the Student Counseling Center at QU Dr. Mohammed Magzoob provided an overview of the Center's services and its collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation and other entities to offer psychological support to students.
Participating entities' representatives highlighted the coming together of all relevant entities in the country in celebrating the World Mental Health Day, within the framework of enhancing cooperation and partnership in the field, noting that mental health is a basic human right, and a prerequisite for leading a happy and healthy life.
An accompanying exhibition was held on the sidelines of the celebration, in which mental health support and student counseling centers participated.
