Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development revealed providing audio description services for the blind and visually impaired at the opening and closing ceremonies of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, through a team from the Audio-Visual Translation Department of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).

In line with Qatar Foundation's commitment to providing inclusiveness and accessibility within its core missions, and in support of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, these services will also be provided during matches throughout the tournament, after being successfully introduced for the first time during the Arab Cup.

Four presenters, students and graduates of the Master of Arts in Audiovisual Translation at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, will participate, in both Arabic and English, during the opening and closing ceremonies of the tournament, while 19 presenters will participate in providing this service during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches.

The audio description of the football matches includes an accurate review of every detail in the stadium, so that this is not limited to football directions and the movement of players only, but also harmonizes with all the sounds in the stadium, to create an integrated picture that enables blind and visually impaired fans to immerse themselves in the experience and witness the scene in all its details.

The CEO of Strategic Initiatives at Qatar Foundation Machaille Hassan Al Naimi, said that the Foundation's support for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through various initiatives, events and innovations reflects its commitment to providing accessible and inclusiveness in order to enable all individuals of different ages, abilities, cultures and other considerations to be part and enjoy the biggest sporting event in the world.

For her part, the Founding Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Dr. Amal Mohammed Al-Malki, explained that the colleges vision since its establishment has been based on enriching communities in Qatar and abroad by providing multidisciplinary educational experiences that provide the academic community with opportunities for constructive partnerships and innovative research experiences.
