Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in northern Gaza Strip

A Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces in the northern Gaza Strip, medical sources said, in the latest of a series of deadly incidents reported despite the ceasefire that has been in place since October 2025. 

Palestinian authorities have continued to report near-daily Israeli attacks across the enclave including air strikes, shelling and gunfire which they describe as violations of the truce. Israel says its operations target militants who pose a threat.

The killing came a day after an Israeli strike killed the head of the police force in northern Gaza, Brigadier General Abdel-Nasser al-Maqadma, in the Sheikh Radwan area north of Gaza City, one of several Palestinians reported killed on Saturday. Gaza's Interior Ministry said Israel was deliberately targeting police personnel, while the Israeli military said al-Maqadma had been a member of Hamas's military wing.

According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 1,180 Palestinians have been killed since the US-backed ceasefire took effect in October 2025. The truce, part of a phased peace plan, has been repeatedly strained, and Hamas announced the resignation of its civil administration in Gaza earlier this month under the terms of the plan.

The Health Ministry says the overall death toll in Gaza since the war began in October 2023 has risen to more than 73,000, with over 173,000 people wounded. The figures could not be independently verified.
