Oppenheimer will be released on the 20th of July

The entertainment world is buzzing with excitement as the much-awaited film, Oppenheimer, approaches its release date. The biographical thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cillian Murphy, is set to hit the big screens in Qatar on the 20th of July.

The movie is adapted from the 2005 book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and the late Martin J Sherwin.

The film chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist who played a pivotal role in the development of the first nuclear weapon. While the movie is set primarily during World War II, it's not so much about the war itself but more about the ethical dilemma faced by Oppenheimer and his team who were torn between the moral implications of the weapon they were creating, and their loyalty to the US government.

It was first announced in September 2021 when Nolan chose Universal Pictures as the distributor for the film. They began filming in late February 2022 and wrapped up that May. This is Nolan’s first movie since Insomnia (2002) to not be financed or distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Nolan ended his exclusive dealings with Warner Bros. after they announced they would release all 17 of their 2021 theatrically released films on HBO Max.

Nolan is no stranger to creating groundbreaking films, having directed numerous critically acclaimed movies, such as the Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, and many others. His talent for creating visually stunning films is sure to shine in Oppenheimer, as he brings to life the story of one of the most complex scientists of the 20th century.

One of the most impressive things about the movie is that Nolan chose to use no CGI shots in the film, even in the scenes that depict the nuclear explosion tests. The run time of Oppenheimer is 3 hours 10 mins. The movie will have black and white scenes and colour scenes. The colour scenes are Oppenheimer's subjective experience and the B&W scenes are a more objective view of his story from a different character’s point of view. This is the first time an IMAX movie has been shot in black and white. Oppenheimer’s production team had to engineer the 65mm black and white IMAX film in order to shoot those special B&W scenes.

Cillian Murphy, who has previously worked with Nolan in projects like Inception and Dunkirk, delivers a powerful performance as Oppenheimer. This is their sixth film together and is also the first time for Murphy to play the lead role in Nolan’s film. He portrays the physicist's internal struggle as he grapples with the moral implications of his work on the first nuclear weapon.

Oppenheimer promises to be a one-of-a-kind moviegoing experience that explores scientific and moral decision-making in a way that is both thought-provoking and visually stunning. With Nolan's trademark cinematic style, Murphy's compelling performance, and a star-studded cast, including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh, this biographical drama is sure to create an unforgettable cinematic experience and become a box office hit.
