Oman Mourns Nadhira Al Harthy, First Omani Woman to Summit Everest

Oman is mourning the loss of renowned mountaineer Nadhira Al Harthy, the first Omani woman to summit Mount Everest, who died after an avalanche struck her expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan.

Al Harthy was among climbers caught in the avalanche on July 30, 2026, on Broad Peak, one of the world’s highest mountains. Her body was later recovered, according to reports from the Oman Observer and other sources.

A trailblazing climbing career

Al Harthy made history in May 2019 when she became the first Omani woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, becoming only the second Omani to accomplish the feat.
