HE Minister of Municipality Dr.Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, affirmed that the State of Qatar has attached great importance to developing the local fish farming industry with the aim of increasing production and raising the percentage of self-sufficiency in fish from other sources without resorting to excessive exploitation of fisheries.

In a speech delivered at the three-day International Conference and Exhibition on Fisheries in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency referred to the establishment of the aquatic biology research center, which was equipped with the latest technologies in fish farming systems, and has entered the stage of actual production since 2020, pointing out that about 1.5 million small local fish (Hamour, Al-Shaam, Al-Safi) and about 6 million shrimp larvae were produced by the end of last year.

HE the Minister of Municipality highlighted the efforts of the State of Qatar in the field of achieving national food security as one of the goals of regional and global food security, as these efforts culminated in the State of Qatar by obtaining first place in the Gulf and Arab countries and 24th place globally in the Global Food Security Index GFSI 2021.

His Excellency also explained that, according to the directives of HH the Amir to maximize the role of the private sector in the economic fields in the country, the state has put forward projects for the cultivation of fish and shrimp, and they are currently being implemented by private sector companies using the latest scientific technologies in this field, taking into account all environmental requirements that ensure the safety of marine resources. The International Conference and Exhibition on Fisheries attracts local and international exhibitors working in the field of fisheries, aquaculture and seafood, in addition to marine tourism and various marine industries.
