The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), inaugurated the awareness exhibition organized to mark the 36th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Traffic Week.

Opened by Director General of Traffic Maj. Gen Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani, in the presence of a host of directors and officers of MoI departments and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), the four-day exhibition primarily aims to promote the awareness of all community segments, especially young individuals.

To mark this occasion, Maj. Gen Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani underscored the significance of the Gulf traffic week in engaging with all road users with the aim of increasing their awareness on the importance of safe driving and confirming the adherence to traffic safety rules, emphasizing that MoI will spare no effort in promoting the traffic system in Qatar, stemming from the strategic objective to achieve safety and security on road, in addition to reducing traffic-accident-related fatalities.

The fatalities and severity of traffic accident-related traumas, along with the material loss have a profound impact on community and the country, he pointed out, stressing that the significance of the Gulf traffic week stems from those perilous accidents to imbue road users with the essential traffic guidelines and information that would further bolster safety on roads, he said.

Maj. Gen Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani pointed out that the Gulf traffic week will spotlight the dangers from using mobile phone while driving, stressing that this erratic traffic behavior is one of the major causes of traffic accidents that beset traffic systems not only in the region, but in the entire world. He urged the public to engage in the exhibitions awareness activities and benefit from them further.

Maj. Gen Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani called on road users to adhere to traffic laws and norms with due diligence and traffic safety requirements to maintain security on roads to save lives and property.

The exhibition includes the pavilions of GDT and Lekhwiya which showcase a wide range of traffic awareness informative contents, as well as drawing and coloring events.

The tournament security force offers numerous guidelines and awareness tips to visitors who desire to visit sport facilities by displaying the due diligent action assigned to the force via professional screens, in addition to a robot connected directly with the National Command Center, alongside a drone to surveil traffic near those facilities and other boards.
