Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri meeting with the ambassadors

Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al-Marri had a meeting with ambassadors from the countries qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The Minister congratulated the ambassadors on their national teams' qualifications for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He stressed that Qatar would work to organize one of the most beautiful football tournaments organized in history.

The meeting aimed to discuss the latest developments regarding the work environment and workplaces in the country.

The meeting was held as part of the Ministry of Labour's efforts to maintain constant communication with the ambassadors in Doha.

According to HE Dr. Al Marri, one of the key factors in accelerating the pace of development of labor legislation is having the honor of hosting the World Cup in Qatar.

The Minister said that Qatar saw an opportunity to invest in infrastructure and review and develop laws and procedures governing the labor market and workers' rights.

The Minister stressed that all the legislative updates in the labor sector witnessed over the past years will continue and expand after the World Cup. He confirmed that the development of legislation in the labor sector had become a strategic option for Qatar in short and the long run.

The Minister noted that there had been a genuine partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and several other international organizations that contributed a lot to supporting and promoting development in the work environment in Qatar,

He added that Qatar and ILO signed a technical cooperation agreement in 2017, strengthening their partnership.

According to Al-Marri, Qatar has been able to achieve a positive change in recent years in the labor market, with many laws and procedures introduced and updated to promote and maintain the rights of migrant workers.
