The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) organized a training workshop under the title of 'Port Security', with the aim of training its employees and maritime specialists from the relevant state authorities on the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code), emanating from the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

In the workshop, which provided a detailed explanation about the Code and the latest effective ways to implement its provisions - considering that it is the comprehensive mandatory security system for maritime transport globally, a number of maritime specialists from various ministries and bodies participated, including the Ministries of Defense and Interior, Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Ports, in addition to a number of employees from the Maritime Transport Affairs at MOTC.

The workshop addressed the essential role of the International Code in promoting cooperation between contracting governments, government agencies, local administration, and the shipping and port industry, in addition to defining the roles and responsibilities of all parties concerned with the protection of maritime security - in ports and board ships, in order to ensure the availability of early and effective collection and exchange of information related to maritime security at the national, regional and international levels.

At the conclusion of the workshop, MOTC's Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Transport Affairs Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri handed out certificates to the participants, while expressing that their participation in the workshop activities will contribute to refining their expertise and knowledge of everything related to the ISPS Code, which will take part in enhancing plans to secure the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
