Kuwait Airways was forced to reschedule most of its flights on Thursday after regional airspace restrictions triggered widespread operational disruptions across the Gulf. The move came as airlines continued to navigate conflict‑zone warnings issued earlier in the week, prompting carriers to avoid key air corridors over Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE.
According to airport operations data, Kuwait International Airport recorded nine cancellations and 48 delays on July 18 alone, affecting routes to major destinations including Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, Mumbai, Delhi, London, and Istanbul. The disruptions created a ripple effect across Kuwait Airways’ network, with many flights pushed into new time slots or rerouted through alternative airspace.
The airline confirmed that the rescheduling was a direct result of heightened regional security alerts and airspace avoidance directives issued by international aviation authorities. Although Kuwait’s airspace was not officially closed, the restrictions made standard flight paths unusable, forcing Kuwait Airways to adjust operations throughout the day.
The situation was further complicated by Kuwait Airport’s ongoing recovery from the June 3 attack on its main passenger terminal. With foreign carriers still suspended and only Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways operating, the airport has been functioning under a phased restoration plan, leaving limited flexibility to absorb sudden schedule changes.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status frequently and arrive early, as departure times continued to shift throughout the day. Kuwait Airways also reiterated that affected travelers could rebook without penalty, request refunds, or opt for travel credit depending on fare rules.
Industry analysts say the July 18 disruptions highlight the fragility of Gulf aviation during periods of regional tension, with even indirect conflict‑zone advisories capable of grounding or delaying dozens of flights.
Kuwait Airways is expected to continue operating under adjusted schedules until regional airspace conditions stabilize. Authorities have urged travelers to monitor updates closely as the situation remains fluid.
