Jana Nayagan new promo shows CM Vijay's action-packed avatar

CHENNAI — The makers of Jana Nayagan have released a fiery new promo showcasing Tamil superstar Vijay in an action-packed avatar, days before the film, widely billed as his farewell to cinema hits screens on July 23.
The promo puts Vijay's larger-than-life screen presence front and Centre, featuring him handling firearms and powering through several high-octane action set pieces amid large-scale combat. It concludes with a striking reveal of the actor in a police uniform, seemingly confirming long-running speculation that he plays a law enforcement officer in the film

In a closing sequence that quickly went viral, Vijay's character is shown transitioning from a prison outfit to the white shirt and dark jacket associated with his real-life political persona, a moment fans have dubbed the “CM transition,” in a nod to his new role off-screen

The film carries unusual real-world weight: it is Vijay's first cinematic release since he was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in May, after his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), swept to power in the state Assembly election. Promotional material has even credited him as “Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay.”

Jana Nayagan is widely regarded as Vijay's final film before he devotes himself fully to politics, lending every poster, teaser, and song the feel of a grand cinematic send-off. His 69th outing as a lead actor is a political action thriller directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, and the film is reported to be a partial reworking of the 2023 Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari, reframed around a political backdrop.

Bookings have generated strong buzz, with premium tickets selling out quickly and global bookings open. Anirudh's soundtrack, launched at a large event in Kuala Lumpur in December, has further raised anticipation.
The release has not been without obstacles, having faced a months-long certification battle with the censor board and, more recently, an alleged leak. Jana Nayagan is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 23.
