Qatar Airways established

Operations started; first service to Amman in May

Re-launch under the mandate of then Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Journey to an international airline begins.

Akbar Al Baker appointed as Group Chief Executive, a position he still holds. Instrumental in the make-over of the airline.

The Qatar Airways Group, which includes Qatar Airways, reports its first profit ever for the fiscal year ended on March 2004.

October 12, 2009

Completes the world’s first commercial passenger flight powered by a fuel made from natural gas

November 12, 2012

First Middle East airline to incorporate a Boeing Dreamliner to the fleet
