Hamdan bin Zayed Receives Etihad Rail Delegation, Orders Launch of Madinat Zayed and Liwa Stations

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, received a delegation from Etihad Rail headed by CEO Shadi Malak at Al Nakheel Palace in Abu Dhabi, where he reviewed the latest developments of the UAE National Railway Network and directed the early launch of two key passenger stations. 

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on progress across the national rail network, including future passenger stations in Al Dhafra and joint projects in Al Sila’a. He issued directives to open the Madinat Zayed and Liwa passenger stations on 30 November 2026, one month ahead of the previously scheduled date, to support the region’s busy winter events and festival season. 

The decision accelerates Etihad Rail’s phased rollout of the UAE’s passenger rail network, expanding connectivity across Al Dhafra and improving access for residents and visitors during major seasonal activities. Multiple outlets confirmed the revised opening date, noting that the early launch aligns with regional mobility needs and the start of the Al Dhafra festival period.
