Doha, July 19 (QNA) - His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received a phone call on Saturday from His Excellency President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, who offered his condolences on the death of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
During the call, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo conveyed his sympathies over the loss, joining a growing list of world leaders who have reached out to Doha in the days following the Father Amir's passing.
In response, HH the Amir thanked the Equatorial Guinean president for his kind words and condolences, wishing him continued good health and wellbeing, and extending wishes of progress and prosperity to the people of Equatorial Guinea.
The call is the latest in a series of condolence messages received by the Qatari leadership since the Amiri Diwan announced the death of HH The Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani on the morning of July 12, at the age of 74. Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 until his abdication in 2013, is widely regarded as the architect of the country's modern transformation, having overseen its rise as the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas and its successful bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Since his passing, HH Sheikh Tamim has received an extensive stream of dignitaries and mourners at Lusail Palace, including heads of state, foreign ministers, and international officials, all offering condolences on behalf of their governments and peoples. Sheikh Hamad was laid to rest in Doha following a simple Islamic funeral ceremony held at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque on the evening of his death.
The exchange between Doha and Malabo underscores the breadth of international outreach Qatar has received during its period of mourning, reflecting the late Father Amir's standing among global leaders.
